rick-baliWriter, Director, Editor, Producer

To those who disbelieve the “auteur” theory of filmmaking, meet Rick Ray. Rick travels the world “chasing the light” to capture magical moments through his lens, and returns to write, edit, and produce the films himself. An expert in the wide variety of HD, 16mm, HDV and 35mm motion picture cameras he has owned, Rick is a Renaissance man for gearheads everywhere, and yet possesses a unique gift for artistry that goes beyond mere technical expertise. Rick is a veteran world traveler and has a unique talent for working intimately with the people he encounters, whether they be Hollywood producers or Borneo headhunters.

Editing the film on a variety of platforms ranging from a laptop to a million dollar edit bay, Rick Ray has created 14 documentary feature films, including the award winning 10 Questions For The Dalai Lama Lama. Rick is available to apply his talents to shooting, directing, editing and/or writing your project as schedule permits.

A + B Roll Shooter and Stock Footage Producer

If your project simply calls for great A or B roll – anywhere in the world – Rick can get it for you. Rick made history when he snuck into Burma (Myanmar) in 1997 to get rare footage of the wonders of that country. The film that resulted, Raise The Bamboo Curtain narrated by Martin Sheen, played on PBS stations across the USA. The next year, Rick snuck into and surreptitiously filmed every holy site in Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan for a Learning Channel production, thereby insuring himself of never getting into heaven in any religion. If your needs are more local and not quite as daring, no problem. Rick can get just the shots you need. MGM and others have hired Rick to shoot locations all across Los Angeles for several TV series and feature films and Rick’s footage has been licensed to productions as diverse as “An Inconvenient Truth”, “Pink Floyd’s World Tour”, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, “Bette Midler in Las Vegas” and numerous commercials and presentations.
