This demo was produced during a shoot I did for Questar Video, The Indian Government and Air India in 2001. Unlike my usual approach of backpacking and shooting, on this journey, I had full co-operation of tour companies, states, the government and all the maharaja hotels. Five and a half months and 95 hours of thrilling shooting and adventuring later, I had only scratched the surface of the country. Nevertheless, my travels in India have been some of the richest visual experiences of my life and I hope to visit again soon. In 2006, my life took a turn away from traveling when I met Charles C Lynch, a medical marijuana dispensary owner from San Luis Obispo, California, who was facing (and later convicted on) Federal charges of selling marijuana from his city and state sanctioned dispensary in Morro Bay, CA. While I had never really given much thought to the issue of medical marijuana, Charlie’s compelling story led me to the conclusion that there is a huge disparity between the State laws of California, where medical marijuana is legal, and the Federal laws of the U.S., where marijuana is considered a Schedule 1 substance along with heroin, PCP and LSD. Since this short film was produced with Drew Carey, I have begun a full length feature film on the subject called “Lynching Charlie Lynch”, which is due to be released in 2010. – RR

I have a long and very valued friendship with composer Peter Kater. Peter scored my “10 Questions For The Dalai Lama” film and I just feel he writes the most visual scores imaginable. His flowing, melodic, and spiritually uplifting music always inspires me to create visuals. When I edit my films, I always start with the soundtrack first. The unique marriage of music and visuals is something I find fascinating – and in some ways I’m loathe to put narration onto the film after I see how well the music and images go together. In this music video by my good friend Peter Kater, I am working to just tell stories in music and images. This is the trailer for an 85 minute film Sharon and I did about Morocco a few years ago. I think all travelers will enjoy Morocco, which has a nice integration of the purely exotic and the comfortingly familiar. I will never forget the remarkable Merzouga dunes in the Sahara, which rival the best dunes in the world for photographic beauty. The ancient city of Fez is the most vibrant and authentic medieval city I have ever been to. And of course the Djemaa el Fna in Marrakesh is a spectacle not to be missed! – RR
